THE LINK BETWEEN ANIMAL CRUELTY AND DOMESTIC VIOLENCE

"Protecting animals and families: Recognizing and responding to the link between animal cruelty and family violence"

On Tuesday, November 18th at 7pm, the Michigan Humane Society (MHS), the Animals and Society Institute (ASI), and Madonna University will co-host a lecture presented by Maya Gupta, PhD.

Dr. Gupta’s lecture will focus on a review of the research linking animal cruelty to other forms of antisocial behavior, including interpersonal violence and family violence, e.g., child abuse, partner violence, and elder abuse.

She will expound on the fact that, whether we are animal lovers or not, paying attention to the connections between animal cruelty and domestic violence helps to widen the net of violence prevention in our communities, and better address violence in all its forms.
