Bank of America Partners with Feeding America to Provide More Than 165,000 Meals in Metro Detroit

Bank of America partners each year with Feeding America to support local food banks and combat the hunger issue in the United States.

Every day, one in five Americans suffer from hunger. Many times, these are our neighbors and friends in the community whom often have to choose between paying rent and putting food on the table.

According to the U.S. Census Bureau, 16.8 percent of Michigan residents lived at or below the poverty line in 2014. Notably, this number is 1.4 percent higher than the national average.

To help solve this issue, Bank of America partners each year with Feeding America to support local food banks and combat the hunger issue in the United States through Give A Meal. This program provides funding and matches gifts to local food banks across the country and has created more than 100 million meals in the last five years.

While the Give A Meal campaign is an on-going program, Bank of America matches donations September through December each year, considered the ‘hunger months’. In this four month period in 2014, Bank of America and Feeding America provided more than 165,000 meals to those in need.

Nationally, the Give A Meal program provided more than 45 million meals to families across the United States, a 12.5 percent increase from 2013. Notably, 85 percent of donation dollars went to 170 local food banks, while the remaining 15 percent went to Feeding America’s national mission to combat hunger in the U.S.
