Grosse Pointe Communities Talk Shared Public Safety Director
The arrangement is the first example of shared municipal services in the Grosse Pointe communities.

Two of the Grosse Pointe communities are expected to share police services with the retirement of Grosse Pointe Park Public Safety Director David Hiller at year’s end.
Grosse Pointe officials have already endorsed the plan to share Public Safety Director Stephen Poloni with Grosse Pointe Park, which was also expected to approve the arrangement, the Grosse Pointe News reports.

“It’s a good opportunity to increase efficiencies between the two departments and create additional synergies that improve service for our public safety departments,” said Grosse Pointe City Manager Peter Dame told the newspaper. “Future planning for improvements in public safety services would also be more easily accomplished.”
The sharing arrangement is the first for the two cities, which like cities nationwide are still recovering from the Great Recession and and a housing downturn that resulted in declining city revenues. State law places caps on property tax rate increases.
