Grosse Pointe Teen Killed As 30 Shots Pumped Into Vehicle
Police aren't sure why a lone gunman opened fire on car full of teens because they're getting conflicting stories from the victims.

A Grosse Pointe teen was killed and three others were wounded Monday night when a gunman fired up to 30 shots from a rifle into the car full of teens.
The Detroit Free Press reports the gunman stepped out of another vehicle and fired on the car about 9 p.m. on Detroit’s east side. The 17-year-old girl from Grosse Pointe was killed, and three others were critically injured – a 16-year-old female, 16-year-old male and 15-year-old male.
A fifth teen in the car who was not injured drove the victims to the Grosse Pointe campus of Beaumont Hospital on Cadieux Road.

The Detroit News reports four of the occupants of the car were from the Grosse Pointe suburbs, and a fifth was from Detroit.
Police said Tuesday morning they don’t think the attack was random, though victims initially said they had stopped their vehicle in the area of Charlevoix and Philip because they were looking for the brother of one of the passengers.

Detroit Police spokesman Adam Madera said statements made by the teens “don’t seem to be meshing.”
He said the teens may have been stopped to smoke marijuana when the driver of another vehicle pulled in front of them, got out the passenger side of his vehicle – possibly a tan Cadillac – and opened fire. Police found about 30 empty shell casings at the scene.
The suspect, described as a 6-foot tall black man who was wearing a black hat, Army-style fatigues and possibly body armor. The shell casings were from one gun, and police don’t think there was an exchange of gunfire.
Deputy Chief Renee Hall said the teens were parked in a very desolate area and police are hopeful “they will be forthcoming with information.”
“Why this individual opened fire we do not know at this time,” Hall said.
