Haunted Garage Benefits Grosse Pointe PTOs

88-year-old couple helps with event: 'Mom does the witch scenes and Dad runs the spiders.'

(Originally published Oct. 15, 2016) GROSSE POINTE, MI — Several area Parent Teacher Organizations will benefit from proceeds collected during a haunted house concept on Mack Avenue. Glen Williams, a physical education teacher at Maire and Twombly Elementaries, came up with the project, Haunted Garage Productions.

Over the next three weekends, the public is invited to stroll through the display at 19520 Mack Ave. Each night, a designated school’s PTO or charity will receive part of the proceeds from the event. The entire display is set up between Williams’ house and his parents’ house along Mack, north of Moross. Some of the exhibits run on electricity, while others are hand-operated. Williams said it takes 20-25 minutes to get through the event. About 3,500 people attended last year.

“We are a kid-friendly Halloween show,” Williams told the Grosse Pointe Times “It’s a highly visible Halloween show where parents can take their kids. We intend to have a great time. We have many figures and creatures people just don’t see anymore.”
