Humane Society Mutt March Marks 30 Years - Or 210 In Dog Years
The annual event takes locals and their furry friends on a beautiful 2.5 mile trek to benefit the Michigan Humane Society.
GROSSE POINTE, MI — It’s the 30th annual year for the Mutt March, taking walkers and their dogs along a 2.5-mile journey through the Edsel & Eleanor Ford House property along the Saint Clair River. That’s a tradition that’s 210 years old in dog years. And, it's all free, thanks to sponsors.
Participants will hit the trail in the morning June 3 after a short program and will be led by this year’s “Marcher,” a terrier named Archer. Archer and his owner Judy Murray, of Grosse Pointe, are no strangers to the Mutt Walk. Murray has been taking part for 14 years and volunteering for the Michigan Humane Society for 15 years.
Participants and their pups get in with no costs, including parking and admission to the estate grounds. Volunteers and donors are the backbone of the MHS, organizers say, and participants also raised money from friends, family and co-workers to help benefit the organization and the animals it serves.
