Lt. Governor Brian Calley Set to Address Republicans

Brian Calley will speak at the War Memorial to members and guests of the Eastside Republican Club at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, June 16.

America’s youngest lieutenant governor comes to Grosse Pointe Farms on Tuesday, June 16, to speak at the Grosse Pointe War Memorial. The event is hosted by the Eastside Republican Club.

“We’re honored to have Lt. Governor Calley speak in our community,” said Ken Chadwell, Club chairman.

“Mr. Calley is a great advocate for Michigan and our talent pool, working hard to connect Michigan employers with trade opportunities in other parts of the world.”

As a member of the Michigan House, Calley built a reputation for working with both Republicans and Democrats to promote a fair and honest legislative process. As a community banker for over a decade, Calley worked his way from the mailroom to vice president. In that capacity, he helped hundreds of companies -- in dozens of industries -- preserve or expand their Michigan-based operations and jobs.

He was twice elected to the Ionia County Board of Commissioners and served as board vice chairman. Working with a forward thinking group of commissioners, he modernized and improved the county’s financial operations, measurements, and management as it transitioned into a new century.

In 2006 Calley was elected to the Michigan House of Representatives, where he was known for his grasp of Michigan’s tax system, and became ranking Republican on the House Tax Policy committee.

Calley, whose daughter has autism, is also known for his outspoken advocacy for autism awareness.
He was named one of the “Ten Outstanding Young Americans” by the U.S. Junior Chamber, and one of Crain’s Detroit Business’s “40 under 40.” Other honors include the Small Business Association of Michigan’s “Legislator of the Year.”

He is a lifelong Michigander, and earned a bachelor’s degree from Michigan State and an MBA from Grand Valley. He and his wife Julie have been married since 1996 and live in Portland with their three children.

The Eastside Republican Club Forum meets monthly from September to June. Admission is free and the public is always welcome. Stay up-to-date and “like” the ERC on Facebook.
