Nino's Holiday Hams and Turkeys to Benefit Nonprofit, Invites Consumers to Help Serve Up the Side Dishes

Food drive ends Dec. 14, 2014

Nino Salvaggio International Marketplace - the premier metro Detroit specialty grocer of quality meats, produce and much more – has partnered this holiday season with Forgotten Harvest to help deliver Christmas dinner to hundreds of people relying on Pontiac’s Grace Centers of Hope for a solid meal.

Nino’s will donate 25 hams and 25 turkeys to Grace Centers of Hope to serve as the main entrée for Christmas dinner. To complete the meal, Nino’s is inviting shoppers to join them in sharing the holiday spirit and donate a side item. The food drive will conclude Dec. 14, 2014 at all three Nino Salvaggio International Marketplaces: Clinton Township, St. Clair Shores and Troy.

“Some of our friends and neighbors have had a tough year and through the generosity of others, we can help give them a holiday they will remember,” said Kirk Taylor, Nino’s President. “We have identified items that span a variety of price points to ensure that those who would like to contribute to this drive are able to do so at a level that is comfortable for them.”

At the front entrance and in several areas of the store, Nino’s will have a coupon display detailing the side dishes available for donations. Customers simply select the coupon for the item they wish to purchase and take it to the register to be rung up with other purchases.

On December 18, Forgotten Harvest will pick up all of the donations from Nino’s in Troy and deliver them to Grace Centers of Hope where they will be put to use.

“Last year, Grace Centers of Hope served more than 12,900 meals during the month of December alone,” said Pastor Kent W. Clark, CEO of Grace Centers of Hope. “That is one reason why our holiday donations campaign is so important. It enables us to serve warm, nutritious meals throughout the holiday season and beyond when more individuals and families arrive at our shelter to escape the cold.”

Grace Centers of Hope is a nonprofit shelter located in Pontiac, Michigan. It expects to feed approximately 500 people on Christmas day. Nonperishable food items collected during the holiday season and not immediately used on Christmas will help stock the nonprofit’s pantry into 2015.

Nino’s has long been a supporter of, and donor to, Forgotten Harvest. In 2014 alone, the specialty grocer donated approximately 300,000 pounds of food to the organization and an estimated three million pounds of food since the inception of the partnership.
