• Walk Your Wheels kicks off with giveaway (grossepointenews.com) — Kids in the City of Grosse Pointe recently pledged to walk, not ride, their bikes and scooters through The Village in exchange for a chance to win new bikes, helmets and locks. Funded by a regional crisis intervention grant, the giveaway supports bike safety education and positive interactions between public safety officers and families across the five Grosse Pointes and Harper Woods.
   

• DNR: Father and son rescued after they became stranded in Lake St. Clair (themorningsun.com) — A father and son were rescued from Lake St. Clair after their boat became disabled about three miles off the Grosse Pointe Yacht Club, leaving both in cold water and suffering hypothermia. DNR conservation officers and the U.S. Coast Guard located them using 911 and hotline information, brought them ashore at the yacht club, and urged local boaters to take extra safety precautions in chilly fall conditions.
   

• Preserving the Sibley Prairie (grossepointenews.com) — Members of the Rotary Club of Grosse Pointe recently heard from Wayne County Conservation District director Connie Boris about why protecting the nearby Sibley Prairie matters to southeast Michigan. She explained the prairie's rare habitat, the threat from development, and how residents can support the all-volunteer Save Sibley Prairie Coalition's efforts to permanently preserve the 440-acre site.
