Pop Culture: A Celebration of Pop Up Restaurants in Detroit

Notable Detroit restaurants feature pop up food and drinks at Eastern Market's Shed 5

Urban Land Institute Michigan (ULI Michigan), a nonprofit research and education organization committed to creating and sustaining thriving communities across the state, announced their 2016 kick-off event Pop Culture: A Celebration of Pop Up Restaurants in Detroit, hosted by the ULI Michigan Young Leaders Group (YLG). ULI Michigan YLG Co-Chair Allyson McLean made the announcement.


Attendees will enjoy specialty food and drink selections from six distinguished establishments, including Atomic Chicken, Bon Bon Bon, Grey Ghost Detroit, Katoi and Kung Food. Drink selections will include coffee, craft cocktails and Michigan made beer, and will be provided by ASHE Supply Co and Detroit City Distillery. The event will also feature a panel discussing the development of Detroit’s restaurant scene and what it takes to go from pop up to brick and mortar. The panel will be moderated by Michael Forsyth of the Detroit Economic Growth Corporation and manager of the Motor City Match Program, and panelists will include Patrick Howe of JPHowe PLLC, John Vermiglio of Grey Ghost Detroit, AJ Nichols of ASHE Supply Co. Alexandra Clark of Bon Bon Bon and a representative of Eastern Market Corporation. Guests will also get an exclusive look at the state-of-the-art newly developed commercial kitchen inside Eastern Market’s Shed 5.


“We are excited to showcase some of Detroit’s prominent pop up restaurants and provide a variety of food and beverages to attendees,” said McLean. “Eastern Market’s newly developed Shed 5 is in a highly visible location and we are confident this event will bring in a diverse crowd to experience Detroit’s unique food culture.”
The event will take place on Friday, March 11 from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Eastern Market’s Shed 5 and is open to all ULI members and prospective members. Registration is $50.00 for ULI Members and $75.00 for non-members and includes food and beverage for the night.
