Obituary: Gerald R. Doerr, 65, of Frankenmuth, With Hartland Ties

Passed away unexpectedly, Monday, November 28, 2011 at his residence, age 65 years. Jerry was born on October 24, 1946 to the late Herbert and Beatrice Doerr. He married Barbara Benaway on August 23, 1969. She survives him. Jerry worked for Hartland Consolidated School District until his retirement in 2005. He was employed by The Fortress Golf Course. In 1991, Jerry, as coach of the Frankenmuth High School girls’ softball team, led them to Class C State Championship. He also coached other sports throughout his career. He was a member of Blessed Trinity Catholic Church.

Surviving besides his wife, Barb, are 3 daughters and 1 son; Stephanie Couch of Milan, MI, Kelli (Matt) Unke of Tawas City, Shannon Doerr of East Tawas, Stephen (Jena) Doerr of Middleton, WI, grandchildren; Steven and Christopher Couch, and Lilian Doerr, 1 brother and 3 sisters; Herbert (DeeAnn) Doerr, Janet Fairfield, Joanne (Fred) Guarnieri, and Susan (Mark) McEwan, and several nieces and nephews.

Jerry was preceded in death by a brother-in-law, Ron Fairfield.

A funeral mass will be celebrated on Friday, December 2, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at Blessed Trinity Catholic Church, 958 E. Tuscola St., Frankenmuth. Fr. Robert Byrne will officiate with burial in Blessed Trinity Cemetery. Jerry’s family will receive visitors at Cederberg Funeral Home of Frankenmuth, 590 N. Franklin St. on Wednesday evening from 6:00 p.m.to 8:00 p.m. and on Thursday from 1:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and on Friday at church from 10:00 a.m. until the time of mass.
