The Salvation Army launches $250K challenge match for new center, expanded services (thelivingstonpost.com) — A new Salvation Army community center on Dorr Road in Howell is moving closer to opening, thanks to a $250,000 challenge match that doubles local donations. The expanded facility aims to boost food, housing, and emergency assistance, add education and computer labs, and nearly double the number of Livingston County residents served each year once it opens in fall 2026. 
2. Community Catalysts announces Livingston County's newest attainable single family home program: Bethel Homes, Powered by Lake Trust (cuinsight.com) — A new Bethel Homes program will soon bring four attainable single-family houses to Burkhart Road in Howell Township, reserved for people who live or work in Livingston County and earn under 60% of area median income. Run by nonprofit Community Catalysts with support from Lake Trust, the community land trust model aims to keep these homes permanently affordable, with applications opening September 30, 2026.
3. AAA: Michigan Gas Prices Climb Again After Brief Decline (whmi.com) — Gas prices have jumped again, with some Howell-area stations now charging about $4.40 per gallon for regular, above the already steep $4.27 statewide average. AAA Michigan shares tips for stretching your fuel budget, from combining errands to shopping around locally and using savings programs so Howell drivers can better manage rising costs.
4. Three Hospitalized After Friday Afternoon Crash (whmi.com) — A serious Friday crash in Conway Township sent a 22-year-old Howell woman and a 57-year-old Howell man to Sparrow Hospital after their vehicles collided at Fowlerville and Chase Lake roads. All three people and a horse survived, with deputies saying speed and alcohol don't appear to be factors as the Livingston County Sheriff's Office continues investigating.
5. African American students made up 0.7% of Charyl Stockwell Academy enrollment in 2024-25 (livingstontoday.com) — Charyl Stockwell Academy, part of a district headquartered in Howell, enrolled just five African American students in 2024–25, only 0.7% of its 696 students and down sharply from the prior year. The report places those numbers in a decade-long trend and in the context of persistent statewide achievement gaps that Howell-area families and educators continue to confront.
