1. Astronaut to speak about her journey at Hispanic Heritage Month event (mlive.com) — Kalamazoo-area residents can hear astronaut Ellen Ochoa speak at a free Hispanic Heritage Month event Oct. 13 at the Air Zoo, featuring a performance by El Concilio's Ballet Folklorico Kalamazoo. Co-sponsored by Kalamazoo College, Bronson, the Kalamazoo Community Foundation, the Kalamazoo Promise, WMU, and others, the evening highlights STEM opportunities for underrepresented youth. Registration is required by Oct. 1 and transportation and language access are available.
   

2. Boil Water Advisory issued for most Kalamazoo water customers (wkzo.com) — Most Kalamazoo municipal water customers are being told to boil tap water for at least two minutes before drinking, cooking, brushing teeth, or washing dishes after E. coli was detected in recent tests. The advisory covers the city's Low and High pressure districts and is expected to last until at least Tuesday, while officials conduct more sampling to confirm the water is safe.
   

3. Mint Cannabis Budtender - Kalamazoo in Kalamazoo, MI (pennlive.com) — A Kalamazoo cannabis dispensary is hiring a budtender to help customers choose products, handle sales, and maintain compliance with Michigan marijuana regulations. The entry-level role emphasizes strong customer service, basic cash-handling skills, and comfort in a fast-paced, often busy retail environment. Applicants must be at least 21, pass a background check, and be ready for evening and weekend rushes.
   

4. Frank Lloyd Wright House in Michigan Selling for $2M & We Want It (homecrux.com) — A notable Frank Lloyd Wright-designed home, the Samuel Eppstein residence in Kalamazoo's Galesburg Country Homes community, is on the market for about $2.1 million. Set on roughly 70 acres, the 1953 Usonian-style house offers 2,500 square feet, five bedrooms, dramatic concrete and wood details, and expansive glass that connects the living areas to the surrounding landscape.
