Lansing Promise adds Central Michigan as partner university (lansingstatejournal.com) โ Lansing students now have another major college option, as the Lansing Promise scholarship can be used for up to $20,000 toward tuition at Central Michigan University, plus an extra $1,000 from CMU itself. The place-based program already supports Lansing School District graduates at Lansing Community College and several other institutions, and recently awarded $1.2 million in aid for the 2024-25 school year.

2. Lansing Police had extra patrols of River Trail amid homeless deaths (wkar.org) โ Lansing residents who use the River Trail should know police have been running extra patrols there since mid-June, after a series of deaths involving homeless men found beaten or stabbed along the path. Five people have died over the past 11 months, four in July and August, and while one suspect is in custody in a single case, investigators are still probing possible connections.

Current phase of US-127 project expected done by end of November, more work coming next spring (wilx.com) โ Drivers in Lansing should expect US-127 construction between I-69 and Lake Lansing Road to continue through November, with another major phase from I-496 to Lake Lansing Road starting next spring and lasting until 2029. MDOT says the long project will eliminate potholes and replace several bridges on this heavily traveled Mid-Michigan corridor, which many commuters use daily between Lansing and other cities.
