Habitat for Humanity's Women Build brings affordable housing to South Lansing (wlns.com) — Women volunteers are spending this week building two Habitat for Humanity homes on Lansing's south side, part of a 10-home affordable housing project along Valencia Boulevard. About 100 women from across the capital region are installing flooring and other features, including on a house that future homeowner Edward Smith will purchase, with the full development expected to wrap up by 2030.
   

2. MSU construction roundup: Project completion dates, road closures and building updates (statenews.com) — Major construction at MSU and in East Lansing is wrapping up just as students return, with Farm Lane utility work, a new recreation center, and a February 13 memorial nearing key milestones. East Lansing road and sewer projects, including Harrison Road resurfacing and Grand River closures, are scheduled to finish or ease before move-in, though downtown parking garage repairs will continue into 2027.
   

3. Make an Impact: Mid-Michigan woman competes in Transplant Games to honor organ donor (wilx.com) — A Mid-Michigan woman marked ten years since her kidney transplant by competing in the Transplant Games of America, honoring her donor while raising awareness about organ donation. From East Lansing, she's now focused on inspiring more residents to add the red heart donor symbol to their licenses, as thousands in Michigan still wait for life-saving transplants.
   

4. Two-a-days: Haslett determined to 'get over the hump,' Leslie seeks return to 2024 form (wlns.com) — From a Lansing-based sports crew's camp tour, local fans get an inside look at how nearby Haslett and Leslie football programs are gearing up for the 2026 season. Coaches and players break down new quarterbacks, key departures, and how they plan to finish stronger after recent playoff and late-season heartbreaks.
   

5. Lansing man charged after shooting injures two in Mecosta Co. (wzzm13.com) — A Lansing man has been charged after two people were seriously injured by a single gunshot during an altercation in Mecosta County earlier this month. Michigan State Police say the suspect, identified as Gerald Griffin of Lansing, was later arrested in the Lansing area and now faces multiple assault and weapons charges, while both victims are expected to recover.
