1. Lansing Police investigating 57-year-old man's death (lansingcitypulse.com) — Lansing police are investigating the July death of 57-year-old Robert William Smith, now ruled a homicide after he was found with a head injury on a bench near East Oakland Avenue. The case marks at least the second fatal beating in that area within a year, and detectives are still working to determine exactly what happened.
   

2. Woman sentenced for false bomb threat at Lansing's public transit center (mlive.com) — A woman has been sentenced to three years of probation and a fine for calling in a false bomb threat to Lansing's CATA transit center, which forced searches and bus rerouting. Prosecutors stressed that such hoaxes seriously disrupt public order, while the defense noted she had no ties to Lansing and acted at someone else's urging.
   

3. LAFCU to host community Heritage Fest in Lansing (wilx.com) — Lansing residents are invited to LAFCU's Heritage Fest this Friday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the West Lansing branch on N. Marketplace Blvd. Expect live music, cultural performances, food trucks, kids' activities, and prize giveaways, all celebrating the diversity and traditions of mid-Michigan's communities.
   

4. AAA: Michigan gas price hits 2026 high (michiganpublic.org) — Lansing drivers are now paying about $4.95 for a gallon of regular gas, among the highest prices in Michigan as the statewide average hits $4.93. AAA says prices have jumped 62 cents in a week, driven by high crude costs and strong demand, with diesel now averaging $6.81 per gallon across the state.
   

5. Lee Chatfield's trial delayed. Dana Nessel says it's 'outrageous' (lansingstatejournal.com) — A high-profile embezzlement case against former House Speaker Lee Chatfield, being tried in Ingham County, has been postponed after his attorney moved to challenge the state's forensic accounting expert. That delay, criticized as "outrageous" by Attorney General Dana Nessel, could push the Lansing trial past the end of her term and leave the case's future to the next attorney general.
