1. Mid-Michigan Storm Damage Linked to Straight-Line Winds, Not Tornadoes (wkar.org) — If you heard sirens during the Sept. 3 storms, the National Weather Service now says the Lansing area saw damaging straight-line winds but no tornado touchdowns. Forecasters still urge Mid-Michigan residents to stay weather-aware year-round, noting an above-average tornado count statewide and the potential for severe storms in any season.

2. Notice of Public Hearing, East Lansing City Council, Sept. 22, 2026, Tree Removal Violation (lansingcitypulse.com) — East Lansing's City Council will hold a public hearing on September 22 to review an appeal over an alleged unpermitted tree removal at 2982 E. Coleman Road. Greater Lansing residents, especially nearby property owners, can attend or submit written comments before the council decides whether to uphold or overturn the violation.

3. Michigan 9/11 survivor is helping people remember and reflect 25 years later (cbsnews.com) — Lansing hosts a powerful 9/11 memorial H‑beam that survivor Patrick Anderson hopes will prompt residents to pause and remember the lives lost 25 years ago. Through his Michigan Remembers 9/11 Fund, he's mapping memorials statewide and sharing stories of the 42 Michiganders who died, encouraging people to visit, read, and reflect.

4. Benson says she'd use state data to keep Michigan residents on Medicaid (wlns.com) — A healthcare roundtable in south Lansing highlighted Jocelyn Benson's proposal to use existing state data to keep Michiganders continuously enrolled in Medicaid, reducing paperwork and coverage gaps. Hosted by Lansing Sen. Sarah Anthony, the discussion featured local residents' struggles with rising healthcare costs and outlined Benson's broader plans for drug pricing, caregiver tax credits, and hospital price transparency in the upcoming governor's race.

5. Court leaders urge Michigan lawmakers to reform child welfare screening (wilx.com) — From Lansing, court administrators are pressing Michigan lawmakers to overhaul how child abuse reports are screened, arguing centralized call centers miss local warning signs. Their testimony, echoing past Ingham County failures, supports a bipartisan House package that would redirect existing DHHS funds to strengthen local input without raising the state budget.
