2 Macomb Co. Sheriff Deputies Charged After Altercation With Juvenile

Prosecutors said one of the deputies slapped the juvenile at the Macomb County Juvenile Justice Center.

MOUNT CLEMENS, MI — Two Macomb County sheriff deputies were charged in connection with an altercation while arresting a juvenile, according to the Macomb County Prosecutor's Office.

Deputy Derek Reed was charged with fourth degree child abuse in the (one-year misdemeanor) and public official willful failure to uphold the law (one-year misdemeanor).

Deputy Alan Weir was charged with willful neglect of duty (one-year misdemeanor).

Both deputies were given a $100 bond and were ordered to have no contact with the victim. Their next court date was scheduled for Oct. 30.

On Aug. 30. Reed and Weir were ordered to bring the juvenile to the Macomb County Juvenile Justice Center for a probation violation, prosecutors said.

While the deputies were assisting the juvenile, prosecutors said Deputy Reed slapped the juvenile.

"While we recognize the challenging situations law enforcement officers often face, it is our firm commitment to ensure that the boundaries of justice and restraint are never crossed," Macomb County Prosecutor Peter J. Lucido said. "We must hold those entrusted with upholding the law to the highest standard."
