Dakota Golfers Eager to Start Season

The Dakota boys golf team starts strong in preseason and boasts an experienced team of players.

With two strong preseason tournaments in the books and an experienced roster, the boys golf team is ready to get down to business.

The Cougars had an impressive start to the new season, winning the Spring Classic tournament on April 15 at the Port Huron Elks Club.

Highlights from the tournament included senior Brandon Savage's hole-in-one on a perfect, 170-yard shot in blustery conditions. Senior Louis Intravaia was low golfer for the Cougars finishing with 85.

After a canceled match against Port Huron Northern due to weather on April 19, the team placed second April 20 in the eight-team Port Huron Golf Tournament behind Macomb Area Conference Red Division's Utica Ford. Intravaia came in again with a team-low score of 79; teammates Savage and senior Mike Huetteman both shot 84.

The team opened MAC White Division league play April 21 at St. Clair and Cougars coach Paul Tocco said he is optimistic on the team's outlook for the season.

"Our division has a lot of good teams, but I think we'll have a strong showing," Tocco said. "We have six strong seniors with good experience, so we'll see what happens."

The team's seniors include Intravaia, Huetteman, Savage, Justin Haase, Jimmy Miller and Tyler Burke. Intravaia, Huetteman and Haase are the appointed captains for the year.

The Cougars now look ahead to the Evans-Gill Tournament at Romeo Golf Club on April 26 and the Macomb County Tournament at Timberwood Golf Club on May 2.

Now the weather needs to clear so the Cougars can show their stuff.
