Ex-Macomb Township Teacher Had Sexual Relationship With Teen: Police
A former Macomb Township teacher is facing multiple charges after police said he had a sexual relationship with a 15-year-old girl.

MACOMB TOWNSHIP, MI — A former Macomb Township teacher is facing multiple charges after prosecutors accused him of having an inappropriate relationship with a 15-year-old girl.
Rex Phelps, 71, was charged with accosting a minor (4-year misdemeanor) and two counts of criminal sexual conduct fourth-degree (2-year misdemeanor), according to the Macomb County Prosecutor's Office.
Phelps' bond was set at $50,000 with no 10 percent and bond conditions that require drug and alcohol testing, a GPS tether, surrendering of his passport and no contact with anyone under 18 years old, according to the prosecutor's office. His next court date is scheduled for March 14.

Officials said Phelps, who is a retired teacher from Dakota High School and an aviation club member, started a sexual relationship with the teen, who he was teaching about airplanes, according to the prosecutor's office.
Phelps and the young girl had sexual relations at the Ray Community Airport and during flights the two took, according to the prosecutor's office.
