Moonlight Hookah Lounge Opens in Macomb Township

Midwesterners can sample the Middle East thanks to a new local business. Moonlight Hookah Lounge, Macomb Township’s first hookah bar, opened Aug. 20 at 23 Mile and Romeo Plank, near .
Hookah is a waterpipe instrument used for smoking tobacco or herbs in which the smoke travels through a water-filled bowl before being inhaled. Smokers typically flavor hookah with fruit and other elements. At Moonlight Hookah, there’s a line of custom flavors with names like Guns N’ Roses, Apollo 11, and Shooting Star.
Sam Najeeb owns Moonlight Hookah, his first business. Najeeb is an Iraqi immigrant who used to work at the gas station across the street from his new store.

He said he's excited to bring the first hookah lounge to the area and hopes residents give a positive response to what’s offered.
“Hookah is just straight up cuisine,” he said. “It doesn’t give you any physical side affects or make you do anything. It’s relaxing and I hope people enjoy it as much as we do.”

Most hookah bars in the U.S. require patrons to be at least 18 years of age to smoke hookah.
In addition to hookah, the business also sells ethnic foods like falafel, hummus, fattoush, taboulee, and baklava. There are also smoothies, coffee drinks, and other menu items. Supplies to smoke at home, including new hookah pipes, are also available at the 1,400-square-foot business.
For those who wish to stay at the lounge, located at 50930 Romeo Plank Rd., there are leather sofas and big screen televisions to enjoy.
