Macomb High Schools to Compete in Current Tournament Class for 2012-13

Coaches and athletes can safely look ahead to 2012-13 now that the Michigan High School Athletic Association has announced that Macomb Township's high schools will remain in their current classifications for next year's postseason tournaments.

Whether a school plays in Class A, B, C or D is determined by the results of a second semester count date–this year Feb. 8.

The enrollment number submitted for athletic classification purposes may be different from the count submitted for school aid purposes, as it does not include students ineligible for athletic competition because they reached their 19th birthday prior to Sept. 1 of the current school year and will not include alternative education students if none are allowed athletic eligibility by the local school district, according to the MHSAA.

Once all the counts are submitted, tournament-qualified member schools are ranked according to enrollment, and then split as closely into four classes as possible. For 2012-13, there are 760 tournament-qualified member schools and 190 schools in each class.

• Class B: 449-910
• Class C: 217-448
