Man Accused Of Setting Ex-Girlfriend's Macomb Co. Home On Fire: Police

Police said two adults and three children were able to safely escape​ the home.

RICHMOND TOWNSHIP, MI — A St. Clair County man is facing charges after he set his ex-girlfriend's Macomb County home on fire Thursday, according to the Macomb County Prosecutor's Office.

Zachary Zielonka, 31, of Riley Township was charged with second-degree arson and first-degree home invasion. Both charges are 20-year felonies. He was placed in jail with a $500,000 cash bond.

Officials said Zielonka broke into the attached garage of his ex’s home in Richmond Township and set a vehicle on fire. Police said two adults and three children were able to safely escape the home.

The homeowner then saw Zielonka running away from the home, officials said.

Officials did not release a motive for the house fire.

"I stand firm in our commitment to ensure that the flames of criminal behavior are extinguished, and that the victim's rights are upheld in the pursuit of truth and justice," Macomb County Prosecutor Pete Lucido said.
