Sterling Die and Engineering Granted Two-Year Tax Exemption in Macomb

The Macomb Township-based company recently hired 10 employees and may expand its 50,000 square foot facility.

Sterling Die and Engineering, a 50,000 square-foot manufacturing facility in Macomb Township, received a two-year extension of their Industrial Facility Exemption Certificate during the Sept. 26 Board of Trustees meeting.

Sterling Die previously received an exemption certificate, now expired, in July 2001. 

The company recently hired 10 employees and may expand their facility, Sterling Die and Engineering owner Donna Wisniewski said during the board meeting. They currently employ 52 people.

Sterling Die, located on Claire Court near 23 Mile and Hayes, specializes in the design, production, and application of various dies, roll forming, metal stamping and prototypes. The business also houses a quality control and purchasing department. 

Municipalities are permitted to offer tax abatements to local businesses as a way to improve economic development.

Trustee Dino Bucci urged Wisniewski to hire more employees who live in Macomb Township, if possible. Sterling Die employs about five township residents, however, all workers reside in Macomb County, Wisniewski said.
