Student Dress Code: The Weather is Warm, but the Clothing Shouldn't be Hot
As temperatures rise, hemlines shouldn't ... at least while a student is in one of Macomb Township's public schools.

As temperatures climb this week, students need to remember to keep their wardrobes "cool" to avoid breaking public school dress codes.
It may be 80 and sunny outside, but local districts still prohibit students from wearing sunglasses and summer-wear in the classroom. Students that violate their school's code may face disciplinary action and will mostly likely be required to change clothes to remain in school–even if it means calling parents to drop off different outfits.
Here's what not to wear to Macomb's public schools, according to each district's respective dress code:

Chippewa Valley Schools
- Tank tops, halter/tube tops, short tops exposing waistline, shirts excessively unbuttoned, exposed undergarments, sunglasses, hats, head scarves, sweat bands, bandannas, mesh shirts, see-through materials, low cut styles, short shorts/skirts, cut offs, disrespectfully ripped garments, and pants not worn at the waistline.
- All clothing must extend beyond the student’s fingertips while standing with arms at their side, and all shirts must cover the shoulder.
- The time period for the wearing of shorts to school will be determined by building administration.
L'Anse Creuse Public Schools

- Hemlines must extend beyond the open hand of the student when arms are resting at the student’s side while standing.
- Spandex/skintight material may only be worn as an undergarment.
- Pants must ride at or above the hip line.
- Pants must cover boxers and other underpants/shorts.
- Shoulders, mid-sections/abdomens, and cleavage must be covered.
New Haven Community Schools
- Spandex, swimwear, tank tops, muscle shirts, or cut-off or cropped shirts with an exposed midriff.
- Students will not wear pants that when fastened, sag or fall below the waist. All pants must fit around the waist and be properly fastened around the waist.
- Any apparel worn on the lower part of the torso cannot be shorter than 2 inches above the top of the knee. Shorts may only be worn during time periods which will be specified in the Student Handbook for the individual school buildings.
- Sunglasses may not be worn.
Utica Community Schools
- Beachwear, low-cut tops, tank tops, sleeveless tops, see-through clothing, short skirts, short shorts, pajamas and clothing exposing the shoulders or mid-section are not allowed.
- Knee length shorts and skirts are acceptable.
