Township Lights Up The Night During Holiday Celebration

Macomb officially kicked off the holiday season last night by illuminating the township’s evergreen outside town hall during the eighth annual Tree Lighting and After Glow event. 

The evening, sponsored by the Parks and Recreation Department, started with Santa’s arrival on a firetruck, caroling, and the tree lighting. Lauren Davidson, a first grade student from Sequoyah Elementary School, was selected to help Santa light the tree. 

Before, though, Macomb Township Supervisor presented the key to the city to Santa Claus, who encouraged children to behave. Davidson pulled the candy cane-shaped "on" switch and the township's evergreen, as well as other holiday decorations, lit up to cheers. 

After, the free celebration moved indoors to the Recreation Center, where guests can also made reindeer food and other crafts, enjoyed hot chocolate and cookies, sang Christmas “carol-o-kee” and visited with Santa. There was also a juggler, various holiday characters to meet, and other activities, such as coloring and glitter tattoos.

A collection of unwrapped toys or gift cards for the Macomb Charitable Foundation started at this event and continues through Dec. 20. Parks and Recreation has labeled collection boxes at the Recreation Center, Town Hall building, and the four fire stations.
