Woman Charged with Intoxication in Six-Vehicle Crash

Julie Lynn Vaughn arraigned on Friday; results of blood tests pending.

MACOMB COUNTY, MI – A 30 year-old Romulus woman has been arrested for operating while intoxicated and is accused of causing a six-car crash on Interstate 94 in Harrison Township on Wednesday night. Sheriff's deputies were dispatched to the crash on the westbound lanes of the freeway near the North River Road exit at 11:43 pm., according to a news release.

The woman, Julie Lynn Vaughn, was driving a Dodge Durango when she allegedly rear-ended another vehicle, resulting in a chain-reaction crash involving five other vehicles, the Macomb County Sheriff's Office said in the release.

The freeway was wet from heavy rains at the time of the crash.

Vaughn told deputies that she could not remember “exactly” what had happened, police said. She was transported to McLaren-Macomb Hospital for treatment for injuries sustained in the crash. A preliminary breath test indicated she was above the legal limit for intoxication. Deputies received a warrant to obtain blood tests to determine the toxication level. These results are pending.

On Thursday, Vaughn was taken to Macomb County Jail where she was video-arraigned on Friday.
