Council members said they fear long-term state involvement and loss of local control, leaving the city still searching for a way to resume tax enforcement after a decade-long lapse.

Burning Foot Beer Festival moves off the beach; brings camping to Heritage Landing (fox17online.com) — Muskegon’s Burning Foot Beer Festival is coming back Aug. 29 with a big change: it’s moving from the beach to Heritage Landing and adding on‑site tent and RV camping. Organizers say rising beach costs forced the move, but the new location opens more space for craft beer, live music, and up to 15 featured artists.

Oldest freighter, newest cruise ship highlight Father's Day history tour on Muskegon Lake (masoncountypress.com) — If you love Muskegon Lake, you can hop aboard the Aquastar this summer for narrated history cruises that spotlight the lake’s industrial past and its evolving waterfront. A Father’s Day trip recently treated passengers to rare views of the SS Alpena and new cruise ship American Patriot, and more themed cruises with local historians are scheduled in July and August.
