Investigators 'Quite Concerned' About Dead Dogs in Freezer

Investigators looking for evidence of an illegal prescription narcotics ring in New Baltimore discovered a live menagerie of animals – as well as dead dogs in plastic grocery bags resting on top of frozen food in a freezer.

When police made the gruesome discovery, the owner of the home in the 3800 block of Michigan Highway 29, 52-year-old Margaret Carp, was free on bond on felony charges of maintaining an aggressive animal, The Detroit Free Press reports.

However, police didn’t learn until they discovered the dead dogs and other evidence suggesting a commercial puppy mill that a 9-year-old girl had been bitten in the face two weeks earlier by a pit bull, requiring up to 100 stitches, New Baltimore Police Chief Tim Wiley said.

When executing the search warrant, police found 11 live mixed-breed dogs, a python and a mouse.

The drug investigation and animal investigation are separate probes, police said.
