Bites Nearby: Charley's Deli Grille
A wide variety of food, including breakfast, dinner, juice and dessert are served at this causal Northville Township restaurant.
Charley's Deli Grille, located at 16873 Haggerty Road, is an informal restaurant tucked in the corner of a Northville Township strip mall. The restaurant's menu is posted on chalkboards by the deli counter where diners place their order. Then diners pick a seat, and a server delivers their food.
The restaurant has a multitude of food choices from breakfast to spaghetti dinner. Charley's also has a fresh juice bar and a cafe coffee menu. New York cheesecake, torts, muffins, brownies and baklava are offered for dessert. Charley's has a reputation for delicious fish and chips, but the dish is only served on Fridays.
Atmosphere: Charley's is a combination of Coney Island meets casual deli with partial table service. The dining area has mostly tables with a big screen TV. During my recent lunch visit, the TV was tuned to a cable business channel, making it seem like a good place to grab a quick bite during the work day. The intention of the restaurant, according to its website, is to serve “everyone, moms, dads, kids, students, workers, and lovers... you name it.”

Bar: There is no alcohol served here.
Dishes sampled: We ordered what is touted to be one of the house specialities: the breakfast pita omelette. It's sort of your omelette and breakfast bread all served as one. The omelette was placed inside a large piece of pita bread, which made it interesting and tasty.

We also sampled a sub sandwich and onion rings. The menu said all subs are served with grilled onions, cheese, dressing, lettuce, tomato and mild peppers. Either the sub was a bit overloaded (which could be a good thing for some) or the paper it was served in was too thin because the paper sort of disintegrated and became absorbed in the sandwich, providing a bit more fiber (from eating the paper) than I was counting on. The onions rings were well done with a thick, crunchy batter.
Hours: Monday-Saturday 6:30 a.m.-10 p.m., Sunday 8 a.m.-9 p.m.
