Bites Nearby: In Northville, Mediterranean Flavors Meet French Flair
Le George serves up succulent dishes in the heart of downtown Northville.
It was less than a year ago that opened at 124 E. Main St. in downtown Northville. The name has a french flair which explains the influence put on the Middle Eastern food served here.
In fact, the restaurant bills itself as a “mediterranean bistro” and the menu describes the goal of creating a cosmopolitan, modern, bubbly atmosphere.
It was half off a bottle of wine Wednesday that finally lured me to this cozy store front location where I sampled a variety of offerings from the menu.

The hummus was savory and the warm pita bread it is served with makes a perfect accompaniment. In fact those breads, served with a garlic butter, included with all meals, alone are worth the trip. A cup of red lenti soup, called potage, costs $3.50 and there is also baba ganuj offered as an appetizer for $7.75. The main courses include a variety of meat, poultry, seafood and vegetarian offerings including a kabab brochette with tenderloin or lamb for $18.75 and shawarma served with rotisserie chicken for $14.75.
Lunch specials average $7 to $11 and you can even get a hamburger or “le burger” as it says on the menu for $7.75 served with cole slaw and frites maison (fries.) There are several desserts to choose from including Beirut Nights, a crème brule type dessert with a hint of rose water for $4.25.
