Column: County, State Court Asian Businesses for Northville, Plymouth Tech Areas

The Detroit Free Press reports that Gov. Rick Snyder and Wayne County officials are seeking Asian tech firms to expand on the Northville-Plymouth border.

When Gov. Rick Snyder and Wayne County officials travel to Asia this week, they'll be pitching the tech area around Five Mile and Beck to overseas businesses, The Detroit Free Press reports.

The area is already a growing tech community on the Northville-Plymouth border. That includes businesses like in Northville Township, which held its grand opening in May. , develops parts for lithium ion batteries. It previously recieved .

State legislators and local officials have long been pushing for the to be converted to commercial property for such use. Both state Sen. Patrick Colbeck and Rep. Kurt Heise announced last week that legislation to sell the property cleared committees in the state Senate and House.

According to The Free Press, there are currently 476 Asian businesses in the state employing nearly 32,000 employees.
