A dose of Oscar Wilde's witty humor makes its way to the Tipping Point Theatre as it presents "The Importance of Being Earnest," running Nov. 3-Dec. 18.
It's a classic comedy of mistaken identities. Start with Jack Worthing, who from time to time escapes his life as a country gentleman by venturing to London under the name "Ernest." Meanwhile, Jack's close friend in London is Algernon Moncrieff, who has his own secret alter ego, Bunbury, who escapes to the country when convenient.
The ruses work swimmingly until Jack falls for Algernon's cousin Gwendolen Fairfax. Then, when Algernon learns Jack's ward Cecily is fascinated with Ernest, he decides to show up at Jack's country place as Ernest and meet young Cecily. Naturally this creates a whole set of new -- and uproarious -- complications.
