Mosaics Fill Northville Art House for a Cause

The mosaic art exhibit and online auction will raise funds for Doctors Without Borders.

From wall to wall, the is filled with colorful mosaics. And they're not just there for decoration – they are part of a .

"The 127 pieces here are mosaics from 12 countries, 23 U.S. states, and they encompass 12 different artists," said event organizer Lin Schorr of Novi. "They've donated these art works for Doctors Without Borders."

Doctors Without Borders is a nonprofit international humanitarian organization.

The group "delivers emergency medical assistance to people affected by armed conflict, epidemics, malnutrition, natural disasters or exclusion from health care in nearly 60 countries." Schorr said via email. "An independent international humanitarian organization, MSF unites direct medical care with a commitment to bearing witness to the plight of the people it assists," her email continued.

Some of the art on display is available for the online auction. Bids may be made any time of day, even when the Art House is not open.

Art House Director Joan Potter Thomas said mosaic art is a less-featured form in American museums. So she jumped at the chance to feature the exhibit in Northville.

The exhibit will be on display at the Northville Art House through April 27.

While the auction is ongoing, the Art House's hours of operation are from 1-5 p.m. Wednesday-Saturday. The Art House is also open from 1-9 p.m. on the first Friday of the month.
