Northville Art House Holds 'Art from the Attic' Exhibit
Old donated artwork brings back memories for a Northville resident.
Dale Hall, a 22-year resident of Northville, is one of the 100 people who have donated to the Northville Art House for its brand-new exhibit, Art from the Attic.
Hall donated hand-painted pictures of gypsies. Though she is not completely sure how old the paintings are, she believes they were made before World War I. Hall's paintings will be available for purchase at the weekend-long event.
The idea to host such an exhibit came from the staff members at the Northville Art House, who were trying to brainstorm ways to raise fundraise for the nonprofit organization.

Hall said she decided to donate her paintings because they were at home, sitting and unappreciated. When she was married in 1946, one of her wedding guests was unable to afford a gift so instead gave her the paintings.
“The paintings have hung over my sofa for years, and they carry a lot of memories for me and my husband,” Hall said.

She said she had more to donate and would be back with artwork from the old Ford plant (Waterwheel), where Planet Fitness now stands in downtown Northville.
“What is unique about Hall’s paintings is the age,” said Joan Potter Thomas, office manager of Northville Art House. The Art House has received more than 250 pieces of old and new artwork, ranging from paintings to sculptures.
She said the Art House intends to make this an annual event and that the turnout looks extremely promising.
“The hope is that this event will generate community awareness of the Art House and generate some revenue,” said Thomas.
A reception was held Friday night and was sponsored by Table 5 and Ameriprise Financial. The exhibit will continue from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday and from noon-4 p.m. Sunday.
