2 Dozen Now Homeless After 'Chaotic' Condominium Fire

A condominium fire of unknown origin in Novi this morning has left more than 20 people homeless during a harsh winter storm.

The fire  at the Olde Orchard Condominiums, 40000 W. 10 Mile Road west of Haggerty Road, broke out between 8 and 9 a.m., causing significant damage to six units, all housed in a single building believed to have been built in the 1970s, The Oakland Press reports.

The Salvation Army of Metro Detroit’s Emergency Disaster Services distributed coffee, hot chocolate, water, pizza and blankets to residents and emergency responders. The emergency social services provider will also provide access to counseling and stress management services to the residents.

“It was a chaotic situation,” building manager Robert Keyes told the newspaper. “The building is in rough shape.”

One resident was transported to an area hospital with minor rooms.
