Novi Schools Announces 2013 Teachers of the Year

Today three of Novi's finest teachers were recognized for their dedication to the students at Novi Community Schools as the 2013 Novi Teachers of the Year.  Novi Schools have excellent teaching staff and selecting only three representatives from Novi’s top educators was a difficult task.

Novi's 2013 High School Teacher of the Year, Mrs. Katy Dinkelmann, has a long and impressive list of accomplishments in her time with Novi Community Schools
since 2005.  She has served on multiple teams achieving high honors. She is a Content Area Leader for the fine arts department, she has taught IB Theory of Knowledge, she has been a class sponsor for many years, and she has hosted numerous clubs from elementary to high school.  She was named Dance Teacher of the Year by the Michigan Dance Council in 2011.  Principal Carol Diglio says, “Katy is an outstanding teacher leader in our learning community”.  Most importantly, Katy creates a positive culture and
experience for her students. Mrs. Dinkelmann student’s say she has “transformed the dance program at Novi High” and “She spends countless weekends with students preparing us for competitions.”

Novi's 2013 Middle School Teacher of the Year, Ms. Katie Ammons, has been with Novi Community Schools since 2004.  Ms. Ammons embodies leadership and integrity in setting aside adult needs to do what is right for kids.    She has served on multiple teams including the Social Justice team, continuous school improvement team and the district reproductive health team.  Ms. Ammons has led staff and students through initiatives at the building and district level and is a committed professional to making education the best for all students.  Ms. Ammons students say they “feel important and she remembers all of her students past and present”.  Principal Stephanie Schriner says, “Katie teaches the required Life Skills course and as a result has the opportunity to meet a wide variety of students. She does a fantastic job attending to the needs of all students. Her positive attitude and winning smile make her highly approachable to
students and parents alike.  We are fortunate to have Katie on the middle school staff and are proud of her
accomplishments.”

Novi's 2013 ELEMENTARY SCHOOL Teacher of the Year, Mrs. Debbie Steinway, has been deeply imbedded in Novi Community Schools as a teacher for over 25
years.  She has served on several committees including the Social Justice team and has been a supervising teacher for many years.  But most important is her commitment to equipping young children for success.  She is committed to helping her younger students with developing reading and
behavior skills to improve learning.   Mrs. Steinway’s students have said, “Mrs. Steinway respects each student and makes us feel good about learning” and “Mrs. Steinway is a great teacher and deserves an award”.  According to Donna Tinberg, Novi's Special
Education Director, “she has a relentless passion for finding the ‘key’ to unlocking the various learning disabilities students may have”.  Novi Woods Principal David Ascher says, “Debbie inspires all of us to work together for our kids”.

Please congratulate these fine teachers!
