CC Wrestling Starts the Year With an 8-0 Record

The Shamrock wrestlers win 8 straight to start the 2011 season.

In the past eight days the Detroit wrestling team has faced and defeated eight different opponents. The season began Dec. 7 with The Assembly Match where CC, ranked first in Division 1, faced second ranked Davison. CC dominated the match with a 54-9 victory while being cheered on by the 1,000-strong student body in attendance.

On Dec. 10, CC participated in the Rocket Duals, a well-run dual meet tournament graciously hosted by Westland’s John Glenn High School. On the way to competing against the host team for the championship, CC defeated: Wyandotte Roosevelt (80-0); Livonia Franklin (59-12); Romeo (74-3); and Walled Lake Central (74-3). The Rockets battled hard to win their home tournament but succumbed to the speed and strength of Shamrock wrestlers in a 59-6 final.

Wednesday night found the Shamrocks on the home mats again as they faced two well prepared teams: Woodhaven and Southgate Anderson. The Shamrocks came out strong against Woodhaven and hardly stumbled on way to its 62-6 victory. The second match of the night found CC behind for the first time of the year. Undaunted and relying on the depth of skill on the team, the Shamrocks rallied to win the match 55-12 by taking the last nine pairings by pin, tech fall, or a major decision.
