Crime Report: Juvenile Arrested for Retail Fraud; Car Window Damaged
The following arrest information was supplied by the Novi Police Department for the period of July 19-21. It does not indicate a conviction.

Juvenile Arrested for Retail Fraud
A juvenile female was arrested on charges of retail fraud on the evening of July 21 after security witnessed her leaving JC Penney in without paying for jewelry, according to a police report. A security officer watched on surveillance camera as the girl selected numerous pieces of jewelry, then ripped them out of their packaging and placed them into her bag, the police report said. She then purchased a pair of shorts and a shirt, but did not pay for the jewelry, the report said. The security officer watched her leave the upper level mall entrance, where security stopped her and brought her back to the Loss Prevention Office, the report said. The Novi Police Department was then dispatched to the scene, and 10 items of jewelry worth more than $570 were found in the girl's purse.
Car Window Damaged
A resident at on Portside Drive reported the rear window of her car was damaged sometime during the night of July 21, said a police report. The report said the window was broken by unknown suspects by throwing two rocks against the window. The vehicle was parked within 15 feet of a dumpster that had “egg size” rocks surrounding it, according to the report. The report stated that there are no suspects or witnesses, but that there have been “similar incidents within the week in same location.”
Purse Stolen
A South Lyon woman reported her purse was stolen while she was shopping in in West Oaks II at 7 p.m. on July 21 said a police report. According to the police report, the woman set her purse down in the store and continued to shop. Once she realized it was missing, she returned to the area, but her purse was not there, said the report. A police officer and Marshall employees searched the store and garbage cans outside, but could not find the purse, the report said. Inside the purse were the woman’s wallet, driver’s license, four credit cards, bank card, cell phone, insurance card, vehicle registration, $70 and her house and car keys. The report said that surveillance video of the store could not be accessed at the time of the report.
