Crime Report: Men Arrested on Marijuana Charges; Fuel Tank Stolen

The following information for the period of Sept. 7-12 was supplied by the Novi Police Department. Arrests do not indicate a conviction.

Men arrested on marijuana charges

A man was arrested on charges of operating under the influence of drugs and possession of marijuana on Sept. 12 at 9:30 p.m., according to a police report. The man was stopped near 10 Mile and Haggerty roads after a police officer noticed his brake light was out and the car was swerving in the road, the report said. The officer could smell marijuana coming from the car, and the driver said he was smoking while driving home from work, the report said. A K-9 unit searched the car and found 4 grams of marijuana and a one-hitter, the report said. 

A man was arrested on charges of marijuana possession and marijuana paraphernalia possession on Sept. 8 at 12:56 a.m., according to a police report. The man was driving and was stopped by police near Haggerty and 13 Mile roads after the car stopped two full car lengths over the stop limit line at a red light, the report said. The officer could smell marijuana from the car and found 5 grams of marijuana and a pipe under the driver’s seat, the report said.

A man was arrested on charges of operating under the influence of drugs on Sept. 7 at 1 a.m., according to a police report. The man was stopped by police on Novi Road near Nick Lidstrom Drive because he was “driving erratically” and drifting over the lane, the report said. The officer could smell marijuana coming from the car, and the driver said he had smoked marijuana after leaving work sometime after 7 p.m., the report said. The officer found several loose buds of marijuana in the backseat of the car, the report said.

Man arrested in coat theft

A man was arrested on charges of retail fraud theft of the third degree after being accused of stealing a coat from Macy’s on Sept. 11 at 5 p.m., according to a police report. A loss prevention agent at the store is said to have seen the man on surveillance pick up a $148 jacket from the men’s clothing section, put it on and walk out of the store, the report said. Two loss prevention officers then stopped the man and called Novi police, the report said.

Construction fuel tank stolen

A 5-by-8-foot, 500-gallon fuel tank was stolen from a construction site on Mackenzie and Cabot drives sometime between 4 p.m. on Sept. 8 and 7 a.m. on Sept. 12, according to a police report. The tank had an estimated 200 gallons of diesel fuel in it at the time, the report said. An employee of the contracting company said that someone would have had to use a key to open the gate, back a truck into the property and then use a loader to load the tank onto the truck, the report said.

House window broken

The upper-level window of a house under construction on Austin Drive was broken out sometime over the weekend of Sept. 10 to Sept. 12, according to a police report. The damages are estimated to be $150, the report said.

Man arrested for operating while intoxicated

A man was arrested on charges of operating while intoxicated on Sept. 8 at 2:11 a.m., according to a police report. A police officer stopped the man after he made a disallowed right turn while a light was red on Novi Road and then went 57 mph in a 40-mph zone, the report said. According to the report, the man’s blood-alcohol content level was 0.126, which is above Michigan’s legal limit of .08.
