DIA Inside|Out: van Gogh Visits Fuerst Park
"Self-Portrait" is one of six pieces of art on display in Novi this summer.

There’s a familiar face in this summer.
A digital reproduction of Self-Portrait by Vincent van Gogh is displayed in the park near the until the end of August.
It’s one of six pieces on display in Novi this summer as part of the Detroit Institute of Art’s Inside|Out program, which brings waterproof reproductions of masterpieces to the streets of metro Detroit communities.
Novi Patch this week is featuring all six of the local pieces.
“Vincent van Gogh wasn’t interested in representing himself realistically,” reads the placard with Self-Portrait. “Instead, he experimented with new painting techniques. He used short, overlapping brushstrokes of vibrant color to entice your eyes to move around the picture. If you look closely in the areas of blue, you’ll see where he left his fingerprints.”
The original painting is on display at the DIA.
Novi was one of 11 cities in metro Detroit chosen to display artwork. Read more about the program and see a map of the other paintings in Novi here.
