A crowd of 1,000 people of all ages will sing the National Anthem Friday, June 13, in Novi, MI, to set a record for being the Largest Intergenerational Singing of it.
This historic Star-Spangled National Anthem event at Fox Run retirement community will celebrate the 200th anniversary of Francis Scott Key’s writing of the poem (photo) during the bombardment of Fort McHenry that became the National Anthem.
Everyone will meet at 11 a.m. outside the Ascot Clubhouse at Fox Run, 41000 Thirteen Mile Road, Novi, MI. They will wear red, white and blue attire and wave small American flags.

-- The telling the story of how Francis Scott Key wrote the poem that became the National Anthem will be spoken.
-- Fox Run’s Choir Director and Social Work Manager will lead everyone in the singing of the National Anthem.
An ice cream social will follow, where attendees will share their stories of what the Star-Spangled Banner and the American Flag mean to them.
Thousands of people at Fox Run’s sister communities in Maryland, Kansas and Colorado will also sing the National Anthem at the time it is being sung at Fox Run. Combined, more than 3,000 people will sing the National Anthem at this time.
This event will set a record for being the Largest Intergenerational Singing of the National Anthem. A videotape will be sent to Fort McHenry, the Maryland Historical Society, the National Archives, the Guinness Book of World Records, the Smithsonian, and President Barack Obama.
