Novi Man Sentenced to a Year for Accident That Killed Biker

Tommy Taylor was convicted in January in connection with driving while intoxicated and hitting a 41-year-old Port Huron biker.

A Novi man was sentenced Monday to a year in St. Clair County jail in connection with hitting and killing a Port Huron Township while driving intoxicated, according to a (Port Huron) Times Herald report.

Tommy Taylor, 38, was convicted by a jury in January of operating while intoxicated causing death after Taylor’s truck struck Timothy Tacie, 41, from behind while Tracie was riding his bike June 3, the report stated. Taylor’s blood-alcohol content at the time was 0.175, the report added.

Along with jail, Taylor also was sentenced to five years probation, the report stated, adding he can request a work pass in six months.

The felony charge Taylor was convicted on can come with a 15-year prison term. But St. Clair County Judge Cynthia Lane took into consideration the fact that Taylor had no criminal record and was cooperative with police during the accident investigation, the report stated.

“One might say I’m going out on a limb for you, and I am,” Lane told the court, the report stated.
