Police Officer Dragged 60 Feet After Morning Traffic Stop
Officer went "above and beyond" normal protocol by allowing woman to re-enter her vehicle to call someone to pick up children, police say.

NOVI, MI – A Novi police officer escaped serious injury after he was dragged about 60 feet behind the vehicle of a motorist he stopped around 2:15 a.m. Monday.
City of Novi spokeswoman Sheryl Walsh said in a statement the officer was treated and released.

The officer, who hasn’t been named, pulled the driver of the 2016 Hyundai over for a minor traffic violation on northbound Haggerty Road, north of Eight Mile Road.
The officer discovered she had multiple arrest warrants, and allowed her to re-enter the vehicle to make arrangements for someone to pick up the two young children who were passengers in the vehicle.

She attempted to flee and the officer grabbed her left arm as she drove off, Novi Assistant Police Chief Erick Zinser told The Detroit News. The officer held on as long as possible, finally letting go of the vehicle after it had traveled about 60 feet.
Police did not reveal the woman’s identity, but said they were looking for her. She was driving on a suspended license at the time.
The officer sustained minor cuts and bruises, Zinser said, and was sent him for the day to recover. He will have to be medically cleared to return to work.
Zinser said, “went above and beyond” in allowing the the woman to make the call to have her children picked up.
“We stress helping people out as much as we can,” he told The Detroit News.
