Sick Raccoon Shot Near Chase Farms
Gunshots heard on Monday morning were from the Novi Police Department.

A Novi police officer shot a sick raccoon near Chase Farms subdivision Monday morning.
A resident called the police after spotting the raccoon running circles in the roadway around 8 a.m.
"Obviously it was sick, so the officer came out and kind of shooed it off into the woods where the officer actually euthanized it and actually shot it a couple of times because it wouldn't die," said Novi Chief of Police and Director of Public Safety David Molloy.

Another resident then called police to report the gunshots.
The department disposed of the raccoon, which Molloy says they do a couple dozens of times per year with sick animals.

"We actually don't know what it had, but it was sick enough to where it exhibited signs and through the officer's training and experience, he believed it was sick," Molloy said.
