Vandals Cause Damage to $50,000 Transformer at Novi Business

The equipment powered a foundry at a business on Trans X Road.

Vandalism to a $50,000 electrical transformer brought a foundry operation on Trans X Road in Novi to a halt Feb. 20.

According to the Novi Police Report, the transformer was operating normally when workers left at 2:30 p.m. on Feb. 19. Between that time and 4 a.m. on Feb. 20, someone broke the lock on a set of dials that controlled the transformer's power output, and the unit appeared to have burned out.

The transformer powered a large furnace needed for foundry operations.
