The U.S. Social Security Administration has released a searchable database of the names parents across the country most often picked for their babies. In Michigan, there are many Liams, Masons, Emmas and Sophias.

Liam, Mason and Noah were the top names given to boys born in Michigan in 2013. Emma, Sophia and Eva were the top two picks for girls born last year.

In 1960, when the last searchable year on the database, the most popular names for boys were David, used 4,288 times, and Michael, used 3,939 times. William was th only other name in the 2013 Top 10 that was also in the 1960 Top 10. There were 2,033 Williams born that year.

Among girls, none of the names most used in 2013 were on the list in 1960. That year, Mary was used 2,518 times, and Karen was used 2019 times.

Michigan parents top picks for their babies corresponded with national trends in 2013, where the most frequently used names for boys were Noah, Liam, Jacob, Mason, William, Ethan, Michael, Alexander, Jayden and Daniel.

Names for girls, in order of popularity, were Sophia, Emma, Olivia, Isabella, Ava, Mia, Emily, Abigail, Madison and Elizabeth.
