5 Things to Know This Week

Here's what's happening in and around Oakland Township this week.

There is a lot going on this week. Here are some highlights:

  1. events: A will take place at the library starting at 7 p.m. Tuesday. Certified dog trainer Beth Duman will introduce her book, The Evolution of Charlie Darwin: Partner with Your Dog Using Positive Training, and detail how positive training helped her manage her mutt. At 7 p.m. Thursday, local historian and journalist Richard Bak : A Collection of Movers, Shakers, Lost Souls, and History Makers from Detroit's Past. To register for either event, visit the library's website at rhpl.org.
  2. : At 9 a.m. Wednesday, prospective parents are invited to visit Eagle Creek Academy in Oakland Township for an open house. Eagle Creek is a private school serving children 3 years old through eighth grade. If interested in attending, contact 248-475-9999 to RSVP.
  3. : The Rochester Schools Foundation and the Jessica K. Rogers Memorial Endowment Fund will host the Detroit Symphony Orchestra Wind and Brass Quintets at 7 p.m. Wednesday at . The event is free. 
  4. Adams High School Dessert Theater: The annual Dessert Theater will take place at 7 p.m. Friday. The event is free to the public, though a $5 donation is appreciated. During the evening, students will perform student-written and -directed shows. Dessert will be served after the second act.
  5. : The (OPC) in Rochester will host its third annual Rockin' Sock Hop fundraiser on-site from 6-9 p.m. Friday. Music from the '50s and '60s will be played, and the OPC encourages attendees to dress to match the tunes for the blast into the past. The event is open to the public. Tickets cost $15 per person and can be purchased at the OPC ticket office or by calling 248-608-0251 from 8:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m. through Thursday. The deadline to buy tickets is Thursday; no tickets will be available at the door.
