Baker College interior design students hit the fashion runway March 18 in Troy
The students used interior design fabrics for their fashion designs to better understand fabric use, properties.

Students in the Baker College of Auburn Hills interior design textiles course learn about fabrics, how they function and for what purpose each is best suited.
On Friday, March 18, these students will use that knowledge to exhibit unique fashions they have designed and sewn using interior design fabrics at the Baker College Department of Interior Design Student Fashion Show.
“Textiles are a core element of interior design, so creating unique fashion designs with interior design fabrics helps students get essential hands–on experience, ” said Ann Jacob, director of interior design programs at Baker College of Auburn Hills. “Showcasing these fashions allows students to view their designs in use and better understand the important link between form and function.”

Stark®, Troy, a wholesale distributor of Stark fabric, carpet, rugs, antique rugs, wallcovering and furniture, donated discontinued fabrics for use by the students, so the show has the added environmental benefit of diverting material from the waste stream.
Each of the 15 participating interior design students is presenting at least one outfit; some have more than one entry. Most have had no prior sewing experience.
