As the last echoes of the July fireworks slowly fade away, bring a blanket, friends and snacks to Orion Township’s Civic Center Park in Orion Township for a cool evening of summer pops music with the North Oakland Concert Band. The Summer Nights concert starts at 7:00 p.m. at the Wildwood of Orion Township Amphitheater in the southwest corner of the park, and will feature a wide variety of pops music for concert band including music by Irving Berlin, George Gershwin, Hoagy Carmichael and John Philip Sousa.
Annette Kline, conductor and musical director of the North Oakland Concert Band, leads the ensemble in a program that is a perfect close to a summer’s evening. The styles of music range from arrangements of music from Broadway, to light jazz, Big Band, concert marches and even a bit of Baroque classical music.
Bookended by Sousa marches, El Capitan and King Cotton, the concert features Summertime, by George Gershwin; New York: 1927, a musical depiction of the streets of New York by Warren Barker, and music from My Fair Lady. A tribute to the music of George M. Cohan, Star-Spangled Salute, will lead right into the closing march by Sousa.
